PCL Baseball

The Pacific Coast League, commonly known as PCL, is a Minor League in baseball that functions in the Western USA.

In the first half of the 20th century, the league was one of the few well-established regional leagues. The PCL has always boasted of high-quality plays, landing it the position of a Triple-A League. Along with the International League, the PCL is only one grade lower than Major League Baseball.

A Fascinating History of Competitive Sporting Spirit

On December 29, 1902, the Pacific Coast League was formed to expand the California State League beyond its border. The officials granted a total of six franchises: the Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Oaks, Portland Beavers, Sacramento Senators, San Francisco Seals, and Seattle Indians.

However, this caused a dispute between the PCL and the Pacific Northwest League, which ended in the National Association naming the PCL an outlaw league.

In any case, the PCL was still a booming place to be. The weather allowed for longer seasons, starting around February and even going till December sometimes. Teams got to play around 170-200 games per season, giving the players a chance to sharpen their skills and earn money while reducing the need for off-season work. This also meant that the records for season statistics were held by players in the PCL.

In 1904, the National Association President cleared the PCL's status as an outlaw league and appointed it as an A-League. A few years later, in 1909, the class was raised to Double-A.

The 1920s saw the league finally experiencing commercial prosperity with improved attendance and teams fielding notable players. This success has followed the PCL, raising its class to Triple-A.

Watch Enthralling Plays by Legends In The Making

The PCL's Triple-A certification acts as proof of the talent of the teams playing. With legendary players like Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams under its banner, the PCL is sure to impress.
