UFL Football Info

UFL Football

The United Football League (UFL) had just four seasons from 2009 to 2012. It is a minor football league in America played in the same market as NFL. UFL mainly had matches with NFL, college football teams, and high school teams.

A labor dispute and lockout of players by the NFL in 2011 seemed like a way to make the UFL the primary opponent of the NFL. However, NFL resolved the issue before the 2011-12 season began, and UFL lost its only chance at making it big in the market.

It was long before UFL suspended its operations mid-season in 2012. Though the league announced it would be back in 2013, the restart never materialized.

Formation and Closing of UFL

Bill Hambrecht and Tim Armstrong founded UFL in 2009. It was supposed to be a strong league with eight teams initially. The target market, cities, broadcasting rights, marketing plan, etc., were sorted, but things didn’t entirely go as planned.

While UFL still took off and played with four or five teams, it remained a minor league at the American professional football level. Nevertheless, the league has created an impact while it played.

UFL had four teams in the league most of the time. At one point, it played with five teams. The William Hambrecht Trophy was awarded to the UFL champion of the season. This trophy was similar to the Super Bowl trophy by NFL, though it was much less popular. Even the logo looked similar in 2009 but was redesigned in 2010.

Even though UFL wasn’t successful, football fans in the US still remember the league. A new video game is being launched too!
