The USL Soccer Championship, organized by the United Soccer League, is the professional men’s soccer league. Sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation, the championship started its journey in 2011. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida, the league has been the platform for several soccer champions in the last decade. There are 27 teams, and the U.S. Open Cup is the domestic cup the teams play for. The nation looks forward to the matches over the summer months, and it is one of the principal games they look forward to.
Game Format
The USL Soccer Championship underwent some significant changes around 2015, when the league was expanded. This led to the teams being divided into conferences.
The game season usually extends from March to September, and all teams must play 30 regular season matches. Earlier, the number of matches was restricted to 28, but with the inclusion of more teams, the numbers went up.
The top six teams qualify to play in the October playoffs. Major television sports networks cover these matches, including the official partner ESPN. The matches are also broadcasted in the Caribbean and Italy.

Some of the most well-known former teams to participate in the USL are the F.C. Cincinnati, F.C. New York, Richmond Kickers, Sevilla Puerto Rico, Tacoma Defiance, VSI Tampa Bay, and Orlando City SC, among others.
Some of the best-known teams are Indy Eleven, New Mexico United, F.C. Tulsa, Miami F.C., Orange County SC, Atlanta United 2, and Hartford Athletic, to name just a few. The teams go through a rigorous selection process and select from local clubs and colleges. Young soccer enthusiasts look forward to participating in the teams and also go on to win sports scholarships.
Over the years, the USL has seen several champions like Real Monarchs, Sacramento Republic, Tampa Bay Rowdies, and Louisville City, F.C., among others.
