NCAA Volleyball

The NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Tournament is held annually, culminating in the women's volleyball championship that includes all the Division I teams. It started in 1981 and is one of the most prestigious tournaments in women's collegiate athletics.

The NCAA championship program includes several sports, with volleyball added to the list in 1981-82. Some of the most well-known teams over the years, who have gone on to win the tournaments over the decades, are UCLA, Washington, Arizona, Oregon, Michigan State, and USC, among others.

Team Planning

A game of volleyball has several regulations, and they are also strictly implemented by the NCAA. To start with, the team maneuvers require significant planning, and the players must ensure the ball does not touch the ground.

The teams also need to master specific skills since they are playing on a professional level- namely, serve, pass, set, attack, block, and dig. There are also certain formations they must be mindful of while playing the game, like 4-2, 6-2, and 5-1.

Player Specialization

The elite-level volleyball players have to go through specific specializations which determine the positions they would be playing in. They are setters, liberos, middle blockers, outside hitters, and opposite hitters. All these positions have a pivotal role to play when it comes to winning a match.

Some teams also include a defensive specialist in addition to a libero, and they are helpful if the team does not have a strong back-court defender.

While you may have enjoyed a volleyball game before, catching an NCAA Volleyball match live is an entirely different experience. The teams are highly motivated, and the young players have much to prove, making each game fascinating.
