The NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships have been held since 1928. Apart from the years between the Second World War, it has been an annual event held consistently, only to be halted for a year again during the Covid pandemic in 2020. At present, 76 teams are playing in the Championships.

The various schools participating in them have much to gain, with the players often going on to win sports scholarships or making it big in the world of professional wrestling.
